International Academy of Web Television Forms Exclusive Partnership with CEA for the Inaugural IAWTV Awards
Type: News
The International Academy of Web Television (IAWTV) announced the details of its inaugural IAWTV Awards, to be held at the 2012 International CES.
According to a release, through a partnership with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the IAWTV Awards will take place at the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, the International CES, the evening of January 12, 2012 at The Venetian in Las Vegas.
The Awards will serve as an annual event that allows its members to pay tribute to the best of their profession, while networking among industry luminaries and supporting the Academy. From studio executives to YouTube celebrities and independent content creators, members will honor those that are successfully creating entertainment for digital platforms.
"The academy has spoken and agrees that the IAWTV Awards will further our mission of advancing the arts and sciences of Web television and fostering a spirit of community within the web video industry," said Paul Kontonis, Chairman of the Board of Directors for IAWTV and VP, Group Director of Brand Content at The Third Act, Digitas. "To have the show during CES not only allows us celebrate excellence in online video, but also proves that more mainstream audiences recognize the quality and unique content the web television industry provides. The International CES will raise the awareness of these incredibly innovative content creators among global audiences."
Former AOL TV and Babelgum executive Amber J. Lawson serves as IAWTV Awards Committee Chair and will oversee the creative development of the show itself, as well as sponsorship opportunities. Kontonis and Lawson announced the show and CEA partnership at Digitas' NewFront during Internet Week among the online producers, distributors and brands attending the event.
Lawson added, "We are launching our Awards show during the 2012 CES because it is the world's leading technology and content conference, and it attracts visionaries and innovators from across the globe. Just like CES, the IAWTV Awards will be the perfect marriage of entertainment, technology and talent, and we look forward to recognizing the best online series producers and productions."
"The IAWTV Awards are a perfect addition to the content-focused attractions at the 2012 International CES as part of our Entertainment Matters program for the Hollywood, entertainment and digital communities," said Karen Chupka, senior vice president of conferences and events for CEA. "These IAWTV awards will help bring the best of web video to the top entertainment executives interested in the convergence of content and technology who attend the International CES."

FED:Live export vote disappointing: WSPCA
The World Society for the Protection of Animals says it's disappointed the Labor Party
has rejected a move to phase out live cattle exports.
The animal welfare group was supporting an amendment to the party's platform at its
national conference over the weekend that would see a four-year transition away from live
exports towards a chilled meat export trade.
But the motion was defeated.
WSPCA campaign manager JODIE JANKEVICS says in spite of the disappointment, they're
encouraged by new momentum to support meat processing infrastructure alternatives for
the livestock industry.

Vic: Newsreader Naylor's son cut from will
MELBOURNE, April 1 AAP - Revered Melbourne newsreader Brian Naylor, killed in the Black
Saturday bushfires in February, has left estranged son Greg nothing of his $20 million
estate.
The Herald Sun newspaper reports Naylor cut son Greg from his will, dated August 17
last year, writing that Greg's behaviour showed he "no longer wishes to be associated
with me or the rest of his family.
"He has during my lifetime received considerable benefit from me and my associated
entities and his actions have caused me substantial emotional and financial costs.
"I have made independent provision during my lifetime for his children."
The pair became estranged in 2003 because of a battle over a documentary production
company that was fought in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
Greg Naylor, 54, told the Herald Sun that he is "destitute", had not seen his family
since the split and would contest the will.
"The methods they've used to keep me out of it are incredible," Greg Naylor said.
"There is no doubt there are trusts involving stocks and superannuation funds. It's
the same process they used to take my media company from me."
The will includes only one of the properties Mr Naylor and wife Moiree acquired during
their 40-year marriage - an $850,000 villa in Coffs Harbour, the newspaper said.
Other assets listed in the will include a bank account containing $32,054.13, a Sportstar
two-seater aircraft valued at $80,000, a bulldozer, a tractor and other farm equipment
of unknown value, it said.
Other properties had already been placed in the names of the other Naylor children
and a daughter-in-law.
A trust fund including a large share portfolio is thought to be a major component of the estate.
Under Victoria's Administration and Probate Act 1958, a child cut from a will can make
a claim if they are not included, especially in difficult financial circumstances.
Mr Naylor's brother, Clinton, said the family was aware Greg would contest the will
but declined to comment on legal advice.

He also plans to fund teacher recruitment .. development and excellence.

the criticism .. urging teachers to work with the government.

NSW: Lindstrom's guilty plea in murder conspiracy case
SYDNEY, Dec 19 AAP - Swedish-born Sydney socialite Charlotte Lindstrom has pleaded
guilty to soliciting an undercover policeman to kill crown witnesses in her boyfriend's
drugs trial.
Lindstrom, 23, today appeared briefly via video-link in Central Local Court today,
where she formally entered a plea of guilty to one count of soliciting murder.
Dressed in prison greens, the socialite who also worked as a waitress, smiled and said
"thank you" as Magistrate Allan Moore remanded her to face the NSW Supreme Court for sentencing
on Friday.
Her lawyer, Philip Stewart, said he anticipated the remaining charges, including conspiring
to murder the witnesses and drugs charges, would be dropped following her guilty plea.
Mr Stewart also said Lindstrom would give evidence against her former boyfriend Steven
Spaliviero and another two co-accused.
"She's definitely going to give evidence against Mr Spaliviero," Mr Stewart told reporters.
"She will also give evidence in any other matters for which she is required.
"One anticipates that if she gives assistance to the authorities she will be given
the appropriate treatment on sentence in accordance with well established principles of
law."
Mr Stewart said Lindstrom was currently in good health and he anticipated were she
sentenced to fulltime custody, the term would be served in Australia and not her native
Sweden.
Her parents, who had previously come to Australia to support Lindstrom, were not currently
in the country and would not be visiting their daughter for Christmas, Mr Stewart said.
Lindstrom was currently in protective custody and would have served nine months in
jail by her anticipated February sentencing date, Mr Stewart said.
Lindstrom will appear in person for Friday's sentencing proceedings.

FED: Land measures will not protect children: report
The author of a new report says the land rights measures in the federal government's
indigenous takeover won't protect children .. and could lead to five years of conflict
between blacks and whites.
Professor JON ALTMAN is from the Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research.
He says the government's acquisition of community leases .. and its changes to the
permit system .. seem to have nothing to do with protecting children from abuse.
In a report commissioned by Oxfam Australia .. Professor ALTMAN also says the measures
will be detrimental to the development of Aboriginal communities.
He says it's baffling the government isn't willing to subject any of its reforms to
community consultation and parliamentary review.
Professor ALTMAN's report says changes to the permit system are based on ideology ..
not facts .. because there's no evidence child abuse is more prevalent in areas where
the system exists.
He says the reforms could also see people leaving small outback communities for towns.
JAMES ENSOR .. from Oxfam Australia .. says the land rights measures will erode property
rights and the economic position of an already severely marginalised community.

Victoria's police commissioner CHRISTINE NIXON says the brawling between the police

Ms NIXON has told Southern Cross Broadcasting she didn't have anything to do with their

WA: Giant water-bags towed by tugs could solve WA water crisis
An expert panel investigating solutions to Perth's chronic water shortage is considering
the prospect of giant water-filled plastic bags being towed behind tugboats from the Kimberley.
Panel chairman Professor REG APPLEYARD says his team has sifted through 30 proposals
from around the world, and picked a shortlist of eight for discussion.
They include former state opposition leader COLIN BARNETT's controversial canal proposal.
Prof APPLEYARD has asked the teams behind the eight proposals to flesh out their ideas

He says the towing water concept is radical, but already used to transport water from

SA: Passive cannabis smokers can test positive on roadsides
ADELAIDE, Dec 16 AAP - Passive inhalation of cannabis smoke could lead to positive
results from roadside drug tests, a test supplier said today.
d:tec Australia, which provides drug and alcohol tests to workplaces, said people who
tested positive for cannabis in the roadside tests may not have taken the drug.
World-first random roadside drug tests of motorists were staged in Victoria last week
in the start of a year-long trial.
The test detects THC, which is the active component in marijuana, and methamphetamines,
or speed, in saliva.
Drivers provide a sample by touching their tongue on an absorbent collector and results
develop in five minutes.
"Research has shown that a person who has passively inhaled cannabis smoke can show
a positive result in a saliva test for up to 30 minutes post-exposure," d:tec Australia
national account manager Andrew Leibie said today.
"As a result, people who test positive for cannabis use in a roadside saliva test may
not have been actively smoking the drug themselves."
He said the research was presented to an International Association of Forensic Toxicology
conference in Washington earlier this year.
