WA: Giant water-bags towed by tugs could solve WA water crisis
An expert panel investigating solutions to Perth's chronic water shortage is considering
the prospect of giant water-filled plastic bags being towed behind tugboats from the Kimberley.
Panel chairman Professor REG APPLEYARD says his team has sifted through 30 proposals
from around the world, and picked a shortlist of eight for discussion.
They include former state opposition leader COLIN BARNETT's controversial canal proposal.
Prof APPLEYARD has asked the teams behind the eight proposals to flesh out their ideas
in a series of meetings in Perth later this month.
He says the towing water concept is radical, but already used to transport water from
Turkey to Cypress and to Tel Aviv, in Israel.
