Vic: Newsreader Naylor's son cut from will
MELBOURNE, April 1 AAP - Revered Melbourne newsreader Brian Naylor, killed in the Black
Saturday bushfires in February, has left estranged son Greg nothing of his $20 million
estate.
The Herald Sun newspaper reports Naylor cut son Greg from his will, dated August 17
last year, writing that Greg's behaviour showed he "no longer wishes to be associated
with me or the rest of his family.
"He has during my lifetime received considerable benefit from me and my associated
entities and his actions have caused me substantial emotional and financial costs.
"I have made independent provision during my lifetime for his children."
The pair became estranged in 2003 because of a battle over a documentary production
company that was fought in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
Greg Naylor, 54, told the Herald Sun that he is "destitute", had not seen his family
since the split and would contest the will.
"The methods they've used to keep me out of it are incredible," Greg Naylor said.
"There is no doubt there are trusts involving stocks and superannuation funds. It's
the same process they used to take my media company from me."
The will includes only one of the properties Mr Naylor and wife Moiree acquired during
their 40-year marriage - an $850,000 villa in Coffs Harbour, the newspaper said.
Other assets listed in the will include a bank account containing $32,054.13, a Sportstar
two-seater aircraft valued at $80,000, a bulldozer, a tractor and other farm equipment
of unknown value, it said.
Other properties had already been placed in the names of the other Naylor children
and a daughter-in-law.
A trust fund including a large share portfolio is thought to be a major component of the estate.
Under Victoria's Administration and Probate Act 1958, a child cut from a will can make
a claim if they are not included, especially in difficult financial circumstances.
Mr Naylor's brother, Clinton, said the family was aware Greg would contest the will
but declined to comment on legal advice.
